11/19/2014 0 Comments Kids Say the Darndest ThingsFirst Graders held a Token Response Art Critique today. This is always a great way to get up out of our seats and get to thinking about artworks. Why do we prefer one over the others? Which one looks like it required the greatest degree of craftsmanship? One of our tokens is paper money, which we place at the artwork that would be the most expensive to buy. Today's class overwhelmingly chose Van Gogh's The Starry Night, but not for the reasons you might think. Many students told me they chose this painting because the artist followed all of the rules for showing depth that we have been studying! Smartest Artists, indeed!

11/16/2014 0 Comments Kindergarten PaleontologistsKindergarten Artists have been studying texture and created a fossil with clay. We used bones, leaves and shells to make impressions in a clay slab. We had even used rolling pins to flatten the clay ourselves! At our next Art class, we had to be paleontologists (scientists who study fossils) and find our fossils. They were not at our usual places at our tables. We then used a brush and some black paint to make enhance the details of our fossils.
After two hours of pose, photograph, pose, photograph... we have 112 seconds of video. At least it's a really cool 112 seconds! |
