1/9/2015 January 09th, 2015It was a wonderfully restful two weeks away. I have to admit to missing the Art Room and spending some time day dreaming of new plans and ideas. This week, we are finishing things like... foil sculptures inspired by artist Alberto Giacometti. The students at this table realized they had all created athletes! and artwork inspired by the Washed Ashore Project ( http://washedashore.org/ ) which brings awareness to the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. Students created a "portrait" of an ocean animal to showcase how special these animals really are. The Washed Ashore folks create giant sculptures with plastic that washes up on the beaches in the Northwest U.S. These sculptures not only enhance their surroundings, but they carry an important social message as well. We wrote our own messages to accompany our animal portraits. Love this one! "You should trust me." and also these prints inspired by the Rose Windows at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. This idea comes from some of my Art teacher friends. I was always intimidated by the thought of teaching this process to my students. But the end result is fantastic! I should have known that my artist friends can do just about anything! |
