8/8/2019 Find art everywhere...Mrs. Steffensen's summer travels took her to Miami, FL, Chicago, IL and Tacoma, WA. The art scene in Miami includes Wynwood Walls, a mostly outdoor space covered with urban graffiti. Artists are given the opportunity to paint one of the walls with the understanding that this is a rotating art exhibit. The walls are periodically painted over to give another group of artists the chance to paint there. The Romero Britto gallery was also visited. Last year's first grade artists studied Britto's art and it was a treat to view some of it in person. In Chicago, Mrs. S and her mom explored Hamilton: The Exhibition. This interactive experience explores the historical context of the Hamilton musical and does an amazing job of making the story relatable to all. In Tacoma, Mrs. S had her best arty adventure yet, taking in the city's glassblowing scene. Acclaimed artist Dale Chihuly has created amazing outdoor glass art and the Museum of Glass is another must-see. Mrs. S was also fortunate enough to have a one-on-one glassblowing session with a glass artist and created a wavy bowl. Photos of these adventures posted below. |
