1/21/2014 "The Meaning of Art"Without being asked, a fifth grade student wrote her definition of art. I have to share some of her writing here:
"Artwork is something that anyone can do if they let their creativitiy flow. It doesn't matter what color art utensil you use. All that matters is that you are yourself and that you like your artwork. If that doesn't apply to you then it isn't art. Art isn't whose painting is better or isn't. Art is about showing your true colors. Let the color flow out of you. That is the true definition of art. Being yourself is what matters." 1/3/2014 Happy New Year!It has been a wonderful and restful two weeks away from the Art Room. Now it's time to get back in the swing of things! Upcoming plans include robot printing for kindergarten and Gyotu fish printing for second grade. Third, fourth and fifth grades will begin their clay lesson. It is always exciting to make connections between our art learning and current events. First graders are learning about "Snowflake Bentley" and his snowflake photograhy from the early 20th century. Mr. Bently used a microscope and quickly photographed individual snowflakes. After we had already begun this lesson, I came across some contemporary snowflake photography. Russian photographer Alexey Kljatov is using current technology to create photographs like the one below. |
