3/24/2017 Decisions, Decisions...Fourth and Fifth Grade artists are glazing their clay sculptures. After choosing between three inspirations and creating an individual artwork, it's time to talk about color. We are fortunate here at CCES to have an extremely supportive community, which affords us all of the supplies we need. That said, we have so many options for clay surface treatment.
We talk about glaze-fires to a shiny glass finish and sometimes a completely different color. We also talk about underglaze-fires to a matte finish to which clear glaze can be added. Glaze or underglaze? Which colors? Can we mix colors? So many options. The first impressive pieces are just now coming out of the kiln. Giving students choice and voice in the Art Room means letting go of control of the outcome. It has been extremely rewarding to see that our students can be trusted to make more of their own decisions and will put forth their best effort creating the artwork of their choice. Next up for Fourth and Fifth Grade? Perspective drawing! We have been doing some practice drawings. Options are available again-one point perspective? Two point perspective? Interior? Exterior? Bird's eye view? Excited to see these artworks next! |
