Mrs. Steinbeck's Fifth Grade class is off to a great start! They are already a dedicated group of artists and arrive at the Art Room on Friday mornings ready to quietly prepare for the creative process. I have been demonstrating this to all of the other classes to encourage them to do the same. Way to go! Home-Made ArtFriday morning, I was visited by a First Grade author/illustrator and her assistant. The book they shared was full of action and intrigue. There was an artist, a little brother, crumpled up paper, frustration, and even a birthday party. It's no wonder that the main character was completely exhausted at the end! Our school's focus on literacy inspired this student to create a book of her own, complete with original artwork. I am honored to have been included on this sweet friend's book tour.
8/19/2017 First Art Champions of the Year! Here's Mrs. Dallas and Mrs. Shamblin's Kindergaten class receiving the trophy for meeting-and sometimes exceeding-all expectations in the Art Room. Considering it was only their second day of school at CCES ever, I was especially impressed with their behavior. Congratulations! Can't wait to surprise another class with the trophy next week!
8/11/2017 And we're back! After a wonderfully restful summer full of adventures, it is such a pleasure to be back in the Art Room! We've spent this first week talking about rules and expectations, practicing emergency drills and starting to create our sketchbooks. Next week, we'll begin discussing artists and cultures in preparation for our first official lessons. With our Artome Art Show scheduled for December 5th, students will be creating some WOW work for framing and display. Welcome to our Teacher Candidate, Ms. Corona Choi. Ms. Choi comes to us from Georgia State University, where she is completing her degree in Art Education. She will be joining us this fall to observe what goes on and also to help with the important work that we do everyday. In the spring, Ms. Choi will return to complete her student teaching. She spent time here during preplanning and was a tremendous help setting up the Art Room. Ms. Choi shares my love of order and cleanliness and together we made a great team! Dive in! This year's opening theme here at Crabapple Crossing is Dive In. Most of our Special Areas team is pictured above. Representing Art, you will find Ms. Choi on the right in the blue shirt, with our Itinerant Art Teacher, Sue Miller, behind her. And that's Mrs. S in the green floral shirt in the middle of the photograph. You know you're in the perfect job for yourself when you can engage in moments like this! We are all looking forward to another exceptional year in Special Areas!
